Sir Brian May, CBE, PhD, FRAS is a founding member of Queen, world-renowned guitarist, songwriter, producer and performer, also a Doctor of Astrophysics, 3-D stereoscopic photographic authority and advocate for animal rights.
Queen remains one of the world’s most successful bands to this day with five decades of staggering sales and awards. Brian personally penned 22 top 20 hits and is now remastering solo works as part of his Gold Series reissue.
A continued passion for Astronomy saw Brian resume his studies after a thirty year break, achieving his PhD from Imperial College in 2007. He is currently authoring stereoscopic images for a number of NASA and ESA Solar System missions.
Brian heads his own fine arts publishing house, The London Stereoscopic Company. Whilst specialising in Victorian stereoscopic photography, publications also include 3-D books on Astronomy and Queen in 3-D. All include Brian’s own patented design OWL stereoscopic viewer.
A lifelong advocate and campaigner for animal welfare, Brian set up the Save Me Trust to champion British wildlife and has been a leading inspiration in the fight against fox hunting and badger culling.

Who Is Brian May?
Brian May played lead guitar on his homemade axe, the "Red Special," for the rock band Queen, which rose to fame in the 1970s. Following the death of frontman Freddie Mercury in 1991, Queen rediscovered success in later years with vocalists Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert. May also helped with the development of We Will Rock You, a long-running musical based on Queen songs, and the 2018 Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Outside his musical career, May has earned advanced degrees in astrophysics, published numerous books and devoted his time to animal welfare causes.
Early Life
Brian Harold May was born on July 19, 1947, in Hampton, Middlesex, England, to parents Ruth and Harold May. An imaginative teen, May, with the help of his father, built his own homemade guitar, dubbed "The Red Special." The guitar, which was made from makeshift materials including firewood and was played with a six-pence coin for a pick, would later figure prominently in May's musical career. He would go on to play it on every Queen album and live show.
